From the Bauhaus into the World

The Berlin photographer Jean Molitor travels around the globe for his project bau1haus. It is a historical-architectural search for traces. For the exhibition "Arieh Sharon - From Bauhaus to the World", he embarked on a journey to the Bauhaus architect's places of work. From Bernau via Tel Aviv to Ile-Ife in Nigeria.
A selection of impressive photos will be on display, accompanied by four films that have accompanied Molitor's work over the past nine years. The exhibition promises an inspiring journey through the history of architecture from the 1920s to the 1980s, which will delight both architecture enthusiasts and art lovers alike.
Interlude "A look into the archive"

With this interlude, the baudenkmal bundesschule bernau association would like to give you a glimpse into its own archive shelves. In each of our three exhibition rooms you will currently find an archive shelf with original objects that were found on site during the renovation work or were purchased or donated. These include Bauhaus lamps, door handles, bathroom fittings and the original gymnasium clock.

Bauhaus Modern

The exhibition "Bauhaus Modern" presented an impressive collection of artistic photographs of Bauhaus buildings taken by renowned photographer Swen Bernitz. Visitors had the opportunity to view the unique beauty and timeless elegance of these architectural masterpieces from a new perspective.
Swen Bernitz, born in Berlin in 1970, has dedicated himself since 2008 to conceptual long-term projects and series in documentary style, in particular to the themes of the built environment and urban cityscapes. His works are characterised by an extraordinary artistic sensitivity and precision and have gained worldwide recognition.

bauhaus for children

The interactive exhibition for children aged 6 to12 years, which was created in cooperation with the Lyonel Feininger Gallery in Quedlinburg in 2019 using play and learning design, was on display from 1 June 2022 to 30 June 2023 in the association's premises in the teachers' house at Hannes-Mayer-Campus 9 in Bernau-Waldfrieden. The motto of the exhibition was: The Bauhaus was a school! At individual stations, visitors can experiment and try things out. Masters of the Bauhaus were the inspiration for the content of the individual exhibits. For example, visitors can experience light, colour and shadow at one of Moholy-Nagy's stations, draw large like Johannes Itten, weave like Gunta Stölzl, bend metal rods like Marcel Breuer and Mart Stam and trace the shape of a tubular steel chair with a "hot wire".

The exhibition Bauhaus Pur featured a selection of 34 fascinating architectural photographs by the internationally renowned photo artist Jean Molitor, who has been following the traces of Bauhaus architecture worldwide since 2009. His aim is not only to create an image archive of the architecture of Classical Modernism, but also to capture the buildings from their exciting side, finding the right moment of exposure. With his art project bau1haus, photographer Jean Molitor has succeeded in an impressive way in illustrating the global charisma and spread of Bauhaus architecture. So far, he has visited more than fifty countries and impressively captured architectural treasures on camera - including countries where one would not necessarily expect to find modernist buildings, such as Afghanistan, Guatemala, Lebanon, Kenya and Burundi.
"School in the Woods"

The exhibition "School in the Woods" – 1928 until today in the association house of the baudenkmal bundesschule bernau e.V. was dedicated to the eventful history of the construction and use of the former Trade Union School and life on the campus: from the construction of the school by the legendary Bauhaus in Dessau for the ADGB, to the occupation of the school by the SA and the associated use as a Reichsführer school until 1945, to the decades-long use as a prestigious Trade Union College of the GDR and the subsequent vacancy, to the successful renovation and current use as a boarding school of the Berlin Chamber of Crafts.
